Dr Yee Weng Wong is a clinical cardiologist with special interest in heart failure, cardiomyopathies, cardiac transplantation and mechanical circulatory support.

Yee Weng graduated from The University of Adelaide in 2004 and completed his postgraduate training in internal medicine at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and adult cardiology advanced training at the Flinders Medical Centre in South Australia. He then further his training and research, supported by SAHMRI scholarship, at the Duke Clinical Research Institute with focus on large-scale clinical trials in heart failure and cardio-metabolic syndromes. During his time at Duke, he was the Fellow of the NIH sponsored Heart Failure Clinical Research Network, conducting several pivotal Phase II studies. He also graduated from the Duke University Medical School with Master in Health Sciences in 2013. Upon his return to Australia, he further his training in cardiac transplantation and mechanical circulatory support at the Prince Charles Hospital, where he has been a staff specialist since 2015.

Yee Weng maintains an active academic and research career. In addition to being an investigator in several international multi-centre trials, his research focuses on improving outcomes in heart failure patients addressing the multi-morbidity of the condition, health services improvement and donor organ preservation. In 2017, Yee Weng led the effort in successfully performing Queensland’s first beating heart transplant using novel ex-vivo heart perfusion machine, significantly expanding the donor organ supply for patients in Queensland in need of this life-saving therapy. He is a regular presenter and panel member at national and international conferences and have authored numerous peer-reviewed papers and several book chapters. He is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Queensland and is a member of the Queensland Statewide Heart Failure Services Steering Committee.

Yee Weng is available for consultation in all aspects of clinical cardiology, including peri-operative assessment and management of cardiac risk factors and conditions. Appointments are available at the CVC CardioVascular Clinics, North Lakes Specialist Medical Centre, with VMO credentials at St. Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital, Spring Hill.
